Big-Data: risks and opportunities for the agri-food sector This introductive course is designed to familiarise with big-data. A general overview is given on why these are relevant, what are the main risks and challenges in the whole agro-food sector.
Nowadays, massive volumes of a wide variety of data from objects and people can be captured or crowdsourced, analyzed, combined, and used in the whole supply chain, providing unprecedented decision-making capabilities. The so-called “Big Data” are not only introducing non-traditional players in the agri-food sector, but also calling for major shifts in agricultural, economic and legal knowledge, skills and roles.
The aim of this introductive on-line course is to provide a comprehensive view on the state of opportunities and risk for the agri-food sector in relation to the digital revolution we are living from which the use of big data plays a major role.
The course is the result of an extensive discussion that took place during the Agrisystem Welcome Day (16th November 2017, Piacenza, Italy) where major experts from different fields were invited to contribute bringing their own experiences on this topic. Agrisystem is the Doctoral School of the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore aiming to train new experts through a transdisciplinary approach going across the biology-agriculture- economics and law sector, able to meet the new demands of the companies and institutions working in the agri-foodsector.
